Here is one example of the usual recommendations for online learners, please take the time to read it. Online learning can be fun and rewarding but it is as demanding as in-person classroom learning. Not enough material for you? You crave stronger emotions? Find articles, videos, or links related to the weekly topic and bring to the Discussion Board!!
This course will guide you through key facets of community-based research (CBR) using self-directed education e-modules. Our goal is to get you ready to participate in and contribute to community based research teams.
- To help you become aware of basic terms used in CBR
- To apply CBR concepts to research contexts familiar to you
- To increase your readiness to participate in CBR
- To apply your new knowledge and skills
Assignments required to apply your new knowledge, develop skills, and complete the course
We ask you for three different versions of one and same CBR project that you imagine, you are doing or you intend to do. We believe that these three “products” will help you understand and represent your collaborative project to your team, coworkers and co-learners.
- One page description of the community-based research project; this can be an intervention or evaluation project.
- One 3 minutes video of you presenting your project
- One page mindmap of the project

Expectations for Students
Final evaluation in this course is on a “recommended/not recommended” basis, but assessments are built-in throughout all the assignments to provide timely feedback. To be recommended for the certificate, candidates must complete all assignments and participate in all forum discussions. To successfully complete this certificate program, students are expected to:
- Complete all online modules and assignments and attend and participate in all sessions.
- Please note: our Learning Management System (LMS) allows us to track how many of the modules you completed, and the answers you provide to quiz questions.
- Should something arise which makes it impossible for a student to attend an online session, the student must contact the instructors in advance.
- Contribute thoughtfully to the discussions, and complete tasks to the best of their ability
- Reflect on the course material between online sessions
